The Re-connect project is all about
providing services to young fellas and young Kungkas between the ages of
12 and 25 years old. By working with NPY women's council and with some outstanding
young Anangu here (like Rodney, Shaun, Ursula, Stanley, Noelene, Nathan,
Thomas, Justine, and all the rest of them) we hope to make Aputula a better,
and happier place for young people to live in.
We want you lot to be an important part of the community, a community where
everyone works together to improve quality of life and to strengthen families.
We will help young people with any problems that they have, help them access
training and employment opportunities, and also help them have fun.
Since the program has been running in Aputula we have opened the 'Aputula
Football Club.' The club has a couple of pool tables, DVD player and big
TV, lounge, and we have disco in there most weekends. The young fellas run
it and look after it themselves.
We are slowly building it up and will eventually put a proper BBQ area out
the back, and more pool tables. The Kungkas are doing up a place of their
own at the community centre with pool table, stereo, and child minding facilities.
After talking to lots of people we intend to develop a community plan that
will help Aputula engage to it's young people back into the community and
give them a bright future.
There are lots of things we can do here to make this great place, but we
have to work hard together to get it. Together with the Re-connect program,
the young people in Aputula can do it.
