Umuwa

Umuwa is a service centre for the APY Lands. Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) was formed in the late 1980s in order to bring the governance of the Lands to Umuwa from the Pitjantjatjara Council, which is based in Alice Springs. APY has an executive council of eleven members. The Chair is Bernard Singer

Umuwa was built in 1991 to house the administration and services infrastructure. AP Services is a separately incorporated body which looks after roads, housing, and other essential services. Nganampa Health is a community controlled health service. PY Media, based in Umuwa, is well positioned to provide not only daily radio programming, but video, multi media and interactive services, information delivery and media education for all communities and for all agencies on the Lands.
