Watarru power is provided by a 'Hybrid' system. This means that it uses more than one source of power. It uses wind turbines, solar panels, two back up generators, as well as batteries charged from the wind turbines and solar panels. The wind turbines get their power from the wind and run on diesel. During the day the solar panels and wind turbines charge up the batteries so then at night time the batteries and the wind turbines power the community. Late at night the batteries run out of power so the back up generator works with the wind turbine. There will be new developments with the power station with the addition of more solar panels and a 20 kilowatt wind turbine.
