Arts and Crafts | CDEP | Clinic | Community Office | Community Kitchen | School The community craftroom is a project which is currently under development by Zanee and Marianne Fraser, who will be the co-ordinator. The building has been renovated by the CDEP workers in Yunyarinyi. It includes a screen printing operation, a painting centre, an arts resource for the school and spinning and weaving and other fibre-crafts amongst other things. The screen printing business includes the local screen printer t-shirts etc. for all of the organizations across the Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara lands. The building was erected twelve years ago to be an arts centre, but never quite got off the ground because it was just a basic shell. Thanks to the enthusiasm of Marianne and Zanee, as well as lots of enthusiasm from the CDEP workers (particularly Paul), the centre has become a user friendly space that the co-ordinators are planning to make inviting and inspirational. The centre operates as a 'Child Parent Centre' where young mothers can bring their children at the same time as pursuing their art interests. Together the women assist each other to develop their art interests and their child rearing skills. A potential future plan is to get a hairdressing salon happening and bringing up hairdressers, and other qualified people such as mothercraft nurses, beauty therapists.
