Radio 5NPY programs originate from PY Media's operation centre in Umuwa. These language and culture programs are converted to electrical signals which travel 450 kms. via a high quality telephone line to Imparja Television's operations centre in Alice Springs. At Imparja, PY Media's electrical signals are combined with other electrical signals and uplinked (beamed) to the OPTUS B3 satellite out in space. The satellite receives the beam and downlinks (rebeams) it back to earth. Satellite reception equipment at RABS (Remote Area Broadcasting Service) radio stations is used to extract the original Radio 5NPY electrical signals and provide these language and culture programs for local broadcast on the communities' FM radio transmitters. The Radio 5NPY program is one of several external and local program sources that can be switched to the communities' FM radio transmitters. For more information on PY Media's technical services and support, see WaruTech. |
