The organisation enhances the people's ability to take charge, make crucial decisions, and forge their own role within the country and global community. In one of the most remote regions of the Australian continent and the world, PY Media faces the day-to-day challenge of using the latest tools and techniques of communication to preserve and enhance the culture of the people of the Pitjantjatjara Lands so that that culture may endure and continue to grow as a vital part of this global community. PY Media has a complex mission. Initially, the organisation must help sustain a rich and unique living multi-thousand year old body of traditions and laws, rituals and performed/rendered art, dance, song expression. At the same time, PY Media must create and support electronic, visual and auditory interaction among the people living across the Pitjantjatjara Lands. The organisation must provide a gateway for the people of the Lands to participate electronically in the everchanging global environment. It must help publicise and support the activities of its sister organisations on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Lands. Using a pool of writers, directors, audio recordists, program presenters, narrators, photographers, camera operators, audio/video editors, graphic designers, web authors, trainers, the program provides a platform for the cross-fertilization of ideas and products/services for television, radio, graphics, and multimedia. Beyond its role as a nucleus, as a major hub of activity in remote central Australia, PY Media's opens the portal to the Pitjantjatjara Lands for scholars, government officials, and interested individuals living and working in over fifty countries around the world. PY Media is the voice of the Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara people. Contributions from other organisations are encouraged. PY Media's production team will translate client needs and create A/V material in any desired format. With the onset of digital technology, PY Media can address client needs more effectively, particularly with the addition of interactive services on the Optus satellite. |
