Award Recipients: Justin Coombes, Shane Wongway and Robbie Coombes from Imanpa RIBS RABS (Remote Area Broadcasting Service)PY Media Community Video comes out of RABS (Remote Area Broadcasting Service) Centres. These centres have evolved out of Anangu expressing the need to be trained up for the digital age while still maintaining cultural integrity. The desire for Anangu to take RABS in their community to the next level has meant the convergence of camera and computer. The same computer technology that delivers community radio broadcasting and the internet to the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Lands. From RABS, trained Anangu video producers broadcast their productions on "The Rikina Video Show", a program scheduled on ICTV (Indigenous Community Television) through Imparja's Channel 31. Through ICTV all of Remote Indigenous Australia has the ability to become part of the audience across a vast broadcast footprint. Training sessions consist of regular one week Concentrated Media Encounters or C.M.E.s. During this week any community member can experience video making in a cultural setting within their own community. PY Media is responsible for delivering training to 10 communities stretched out across the north west corner of South Australia and across the Northern Territory border. Through PY Media, Anangu Video Producers have access to media training that will continue to make their unique video productions powerful and strong pieces of communication.
