Leigh on location (Iwantja springs) making their video

Brief:

Radio every day with secondary students on school holidays, and made two videos and edited ‘Punu Day’ which was filmed last PY Media visit.

Monday

We had a radio show going most of the day, Leigh and Michelle where the ninti star DJs, along with Nola, Pamella and others. Rhoda and some off the girl also started editing ‘Punu Day’, and Nola took photos around the community for a slide show that Lisa and Nola edited into a story on Imovie). We also had the camera out training to make a video.

All the girls took the camera out to the Indulkana springs and started filming for Video Lives (an ABC TV video competition). Rhoda was presenting and Michelle was on camera. We went to another water hold and filmed story telling there.

Tuesday

We started editing the film the girls were making, everyone having a go on Imovie, girls running the radio in the other room, and the guys Shane and Jeffery, doing a show after that.

Wednesday

Radio started early – if we couldn’t go on the airwaves, we’d record a show – Rhoda and Leigh learning how to record shows and how to Hook-Up to air.

We did more editing and later in the afternoon we went to film the girls playing basketball to ad to their video.

Thursday

Radio in the morning with Rhoda doing a 3 hour session with the girls. Then the guys wanted to do a video so we went to the youth centre and Rhoda came to help out on camera.

We filmed DJing, some introduction dialogue, then took the bikes to the jumps track and filmed there, the guys taking over Rhoda’s job on camera. Then we filmed them in the band room practicing (while Rhoda dod another 3 hou stint on radio – hooking up to air by herself.

When we finished the filming some of the guys started digitising the footage.

Friday

Cancelled due to community sorry business. Day spent doing housekeeping.

Outcomes and next visit

Some great radio talent from the secondary students and some possible entries for the ABC Video Lives competition if we finish it in time… otherwise good videos for Rikina video show and BRACS film festival coming up soon!
