Fregon students are shown how to record for broadcasting on radio 5NPY

Students of Fregon Anangu School in the Pitjantjatjara, Yankunytjatjara Lands of South Australia were shown how to broadcast radio through their indigenous radio station 5NPY.

Umuwa, a service community that houses various organizations that work on the Lands, broadcasts Radio 5NPY within the APY Lands of South Australia, and also several communities within the southern border of the Northern Territory.

Radio 5NPY is a medium that Anangu (people) can use to broadcast information, events and music. The ability for students to learn this at a young age is beneficial in many aspects of their growth such as cognitive skills, motor skills and self-confidence. Using media to progress and strengthen their culture and beliefs is only part of PY Media’s training on the Lands but a significant part of collaborating anangu culture with modern medium .
